Stray Red Eared Slider Turtle???? ?

Me and my friend were riding our bikes to my house and we kinda almost ran over a red eared slider turtle in the middle of the street. We took it to my house and put it in a kiddie pool with a floating piece of wood in case it gets tired of swimming. We gave it some broccoli cole slaw (Which I was glad to get rid of =P) and put an umbrella half over the pool for shade and sun. We're gunna give it a cuber too. It looks kinda un happy and keeps trying to get out. We went to the neighbors who have turtles to ask if one of theirs was missing but they weren't home. We are pretty sure its theres and they will probably take it if it's not. What can we feed/do to make the turtle more happy? Please help. Oh and our moms hate pets so what should we do with it????
