I have a 1998 Volkswagon Jetta GT automatic....?

It's a 4 cyl.,auto. I love the car,except it has transmission issues. It won't want to change into gears smoothly or at the proper rpm time. I can be going 80 kms, and it's still siting in 3rd gear. How can I get this fixed?
